When you come to stay at Dorfold you Are invited to share our uniquely characterful and inviting Cottages. With an unexpected juxtaposition of the contemporary with period features, Dorfold is an inspiring place to stay.
Each of our bedrooms have been individually designed with comfort and luxury in mind, featuring supremely inviting mattresses and wonderfully lustrous linen, Bamford toiletries and WIFI – not forgetting the incredible views over the grounds, although we can’t take credit for those!
the COTTAGES
Our warm and inviting 16th-century cottages are perfect for families and friends, each featuring exquisite views, original features, and contemporary design.
REDWOOD COTTAGE
With its fantastic views of the Hall and drive, Redwood Cottage features three double bedrooms and a single room adjoining the master, making it ideal for families. The comfortable lounge has a wood-burner for those colder months, next to a well-equipped kitchen-diner, and there is one large family bathroom with a roll-top bath and separate shower, as well as another smaller en-suite shower room adjoining the ground floor bedroom. We’ve also included our favourite modern luxuries – Bamford toiletries and WIFI.
LAKESIDE COTTAGE
Lakeside Cottage boasts fabulous views of the Hall and Lake, a sandstone fireplace housing a wood burner in the lounge, a well-equipped modern kitchen, two double bedrooms, and a large bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. Comfortable, with a touch of contemporary glamour, it’s a perfect hideaway for two couples, however due to its layout, the cottage is not suited for children. And of course, we’ve also included our favourite modern luxuries – Bamford toiletries and WIFI.
THE LODGE
The Lodge is a grade I listed building, dating from 1862. It boasts some beautiful and original sandstone mullions, gables to match the 17th century cottages at the entrance of the Hall’s courtyard and some decorative lead water downpipes and gables and windows.
Situated at the top of the drive this charming cottage has a dual purpose: it can be used for overnight accommodation (it has a lounge, a bedroom with a King size bed, bathroom and kitchen), it can also be used as “preparation parlour” with an additional room large enough for two dressing tables and the paraphernalia essential to the bridal party’s preparations ahead of a wedding day!
BLACKSMITH’S COTTAGE
Originally the blacksmith’s, this derelict building has been converted into a one-bedroom open plan cottage. Situated on the doorstep of L’Écurie and the Coach House, it is light and airy with views onto the 1000-year-old chestnut tree and the lake. A magical space for the brides or grooms to get ready in, whilst overseeing wedding preparations, it can also be used as a wonderfully private hideaway for the newlyweds on their wedding night!
“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Redwood Cottage and its beautiful surroundings. We really appreciated the tasteful decor and all the little personal touches that made our stay so comfortable. It’s a perfect place to unwind and we have now returned refreshed… and will treasure all the memories we made there.”
Where the wedding prep magic happens… The King James Suite & The Drawing Room
KING JAMES SUITE
The King James I suite, with its grandiose splendour and spacious proportions, got its name having been designed specifically for King James I in the 1620s. Fit for royalty, this room boasts original wood panelling and plasterwork, as well as glorious views over the English countryside and a generous emperor size bed. Adjacent to the bedroom is the most fabulous private dressing room, beautifully decorated with romantic Lewis and Wood Doves wallpaper and large bespoke mirror – making this a magical place to get ready in style.
The details: Emperor sized bed with its supremely comfortable mattress and lustrous sateen sheets, en-suite bathroom, fluffy bathrobes, toiletries and WIFI.
“Everything is beautifully appointed and comfortable, and the setting is gorgeous. What a truly special place to stay.”
